In 2014, I spoke at the Agile NZ conference in Wellington. I took the opportunity with that audience to talk about how we behave as change-makers. We are often very keen to influence other people – but are we willing to be influenced by those same people? I drew on the work of Chris Argyris, Donald Schon and Bill Noonan around 'discussing the undiscussable' and how we might use concepts such as the 'ladder of inference' to overcome defensive behaviours that naturally arise when we are making change.
